Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping can treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological conditions and when applied correctly it assists with circulation/lymphatic flow, muscle function, remodeling of fascial tissue, and can improve joint balance.

Kinesiology Tape (K-Tape) is latex-free, contains no medications, it is safe to use for all ages, it can be worn for 4-5 days, and is a great adjunct for other rehabilitation regimens as it can prolong and enhance their results.

How does kinesio tape work?

The tape is applied with various degrees of stretch (depending on the desired outcome) on stretched skin. The tape’s recoil lifts the skin increasing the amount of space underneath allowing for better fluid circulation and reducing the pressure on nerve ending under the skin. K-Tape also stimulates these nerve endings which creates a competitive stimulus to the brain that overrides the pain signals being sent from the area.

Benefits of kinesio taping

Pain relief

The increased space under the skin and the improved lymphatic circulation reduces swelling and thus the pressure on the sensitive nerve receptors just beneath the skin reducing pain. In addition, the new sensory input created by the tape overrides pain signals going to the brain alleviating painful sensations and assisting muscle contraction.

Reduced Swelling and Inflammation

The reduced pressure on the lymphatic channels enhances the removal of  fluids and waste products that accumulate in an injured area. Taping is extremely helpful in the reduction of swelling and inflammation that ensue from a wide variety of conditions, i.e. injuries, post surgical recovery, pregnancy, lymphedema, etc.

Accelerated recovery from hematomas and contusions

One of the most dramatic effects of kinesiology taping is an accelerated removal of the blood that accumulates under the skin after an injury or surgery.

Relief of muscle spasms and cramps`

The improved circulation increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to overused and fatigued muscles, helping to prevent or relieve spasms and cramps.

Quicker muscle recovery

Fatigued, overused muscles contain byproducts of exercise (such as lactic acid) that contribute to pain and stiffness and limit the ability to continue exercising. When kinesiology tape is used over these areas, enhanced removal of these byproducts allows for a quicker recovery.

Allows you to remain active during recovery

Except in serious injuries when rest is required, K-Tape prolongs the effectiveness of your rehabilitation protocols;  prevents over-stretching or over-contracting injured muscles; and combined with its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, it can allow you to continue training during recovery.

Increases muscle tone in weak muscles

Infants and young children with poor muscle tone (hypotonia) have difficulties learning to crawl/walk. Some neurological disorders weaken muscles to such a degree that limit daily functioning. Kinesiology tape supports the muscles and “nudges” the brain to start using them. A simple application can assist mobility, improve posture, and allow patients to follow an exercise routine that will help improve their daily lives.

Kinesiology Tape can be worn during exercising and showering for up to 4-5 days.

"I was diagnosed with Patellofemoral Syndrome while training for the Boston marathon. After PT and Anna's Deep Tissue/Sports massages, I felt better. Anna used Kinesio Tape before every practice run and for the race. I found it extremely helpful and I managed to run the race pain-free!"
